July-August 2015 Wrap-Up

Long post; no intro! Here’s my wrap-up for July and August!

Guilty Pleasures by Laurell K. Hamilton – DNF. I’m pretty thoroughly done with this one. I’ve tried and tried, but it would appear this series is just not for me.

The Chosen Sin by Anya Bast – 3 stars – great for a quick sexy read that has some semblance of a plot to it.

Golden by Jessi Kirby – DNF. I was buddyreading this one with Ochuole of OhSheReads, but it seems as though we both called it quits.

Sins of the Father by Melissa Barker-Simpson – 4 stars. My standout for July and August, this book is a truly immersive experience. I can’t remember the last time I cared about so many people in the same universe!

June Wrap Up + July Currently Reading | 2015 – YEP. IT HAS BEEN A MINUTE, OKAY?

Absentee Guilt + Channel Expansion – In which I later practice what I preach. This applies to bloggers, too. ;]

Sense8 | Season 1 Review + Discussion – HOORAY, A REVIEW (on a badass TV show, no less).

Unboxing Surprises – My first unboxing! (I know you prolly couldn’t tell that from the title or anything…)

Manga Collection – Another mysteriously titled video – drop me some manga you like in the comments.

A Painting – Just a doodle I recorded a while back and decided to put up.

I have nothing actively in the works right now. I was reformatting/revising The Soul, but I kinda talked myself out of it after some wisdom gleaned from some friends. :3

Next step? Get this #UnnamedNovella together. Which I can only do by somewhat-concurrently writing In Silence and Energy. O_O

TV & Movies

The Sisterhood of Night – DNF. Lackluster and meh.

Iron Man 3 – 8/10 So much better than all the other Iron Man movies. I didn’t find Stark repulsively narcissistic (though I know that’s the point of his character, yeah yeah yeah).

Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation – 7/10. Didn’t add much to the story with the exception of bringing Ving Rhames back into the fold. He’s enough to give this movie points, though.

American Sniper – 6/10. I will never re-watch this movie. It was done well and all that, but I have some seriously conflicting feelings about it that I literally just can’t even with them, so.

Hot Girls Wanted – 6/10. Give it a watch is all I can say. See for yourselves. Expect more scary truth than porn, though.

Hercules – 4-5/10. I couldn’t take a single second of this movie seriously. And believe me, I tried.

Flashdance – 4/10. Yeah, I don’t know, either.

Kung Fu Hustle – 7/10. Great re-watch value. In fact, this round was a re-watch. Hilarious and ridiculously over-the-top.

Thor – 6/10. Did anyone else find this story awkward as fuck?

Kingsman: the Secret Service – 8/10. I watched this, three days in a row, twice a day, and I still wanna watch it again.

The Imitation Game – 8/10. So good! An interesting perspective on how war and grief affects everyone, not only those who fight. And the backwards politics – jeez, Louise!

X-Men Origins: Wolverine – 5/10 – Why the fuck was this a movie???

And a fuck-ton of movies I’ve already watched/reviewed.

And now, your month? Any recommendations to watch, play or read?

It seems like you got a good amount accomplished! Also, it might be good that you decided to leave The Soul as is. Live and learn for the next book, right? :-)

  2. Jay Dee says:

Well, that’s a lot of movies and books to read, compared to me. Not one movie for me. I’ll see plenty in Canada, though. My sister and mom go frequently.
